The Consultative Centerfor Studies and Documentation
The Consultative Center for Studies and Documentation (C.C.S.D.) is a specialized scientific institute in Beirut- Lebanon It was established in 1988, by a group of researchers and social activists. Their motif was to allocating, and guiding the social endeavors and civil activities. It is meant to follow- up the domestic, regional and international affairs, by means of researches, studies and data- collection.
The center has undergone two periods:1- formative, which witnessed the setting of the research
materials and preparation of the fundamental structure.2- The productive, during which the center was equipped by a strict scientific system. For performance control with an optimum utilization of modern technologies, whether in receiving or sending data. The center relies, in its publications, on a dedicated team of researchers, specialists in documentation, and experts in programming, besides, a group of academicians and intellectuals. The entire publications of the center are supervised and
authorized by a "scientific committee".
The means:The center seeks to accomplish its objectives through the following:1- Preparing
reports, studies, and consultations in areas of concern to the center.2- Doing field surveys and statistical studies.3- Building data- bank and press archive.4- Publishing scientific and documenting periodicals and books.5- Organizing conferences, workshops and panels.6- Accomplishing data programs.
Achievements:1- Preparing more than 300 studies and reports in various fields.2- Accomplishing a whole developmental field survey which covered a vast area of the Lebanese territories (1990- 1992).3- Accomplishing a survey of the political and electoral trends which included 400.000 voters, the night before the parliamentary elections in 1996.4- Assisting governmental departments, ministries, and international institutes in accomplishing several field projects.5- Analysing numerous projects, such as Alisar- The Real Estate company for the western edge of the suburbs.- The higway´s network- The conferences Palace etc….6- Conducting several specialized panels discussion about substantial issues.- Setting up a journal archive consisting (till the end of Dec 2001) of 500.000 essays i.e. approximately 2000.000 sheet selected from 150 local, Arabic and international periodicals saved on computer 7- Documenting and analyzing the contents of the official Lebanese issue since 1980.8- Documenting the entire resistance operations against the Israeli occupation, and the Israeli aggressions since 1982.9- Linking the frames of databank users to the main server through outside computer stations.- Founding a specialized library which includes 15000 volumes, books, reports, and about 500 maps.
